Although 26th of January comes every year, for us the citizens of India, the Republic Day is a moment of introspection. Several generations of our ancestors, persevered through a long and arduous freedom struggle, sustained by their unshakable faith in the vision of our own flag fluttering over our ancient land.

While our generation has always basked in the reassuring warmth of our Republic Day, this day is the most appropriate occasion for us to rededicate ourselves to the service of our people. The freedom we enjoy, the equality we share before the Law and our composite culture which enriches and is enriched by a vast array of regions, religions and languages – all thee and more, that the nation bestows on us, ought to be earned.

May I wish each and every one of our fellow citizens in Qatar, our generous Qatari hosts and all the people of goodwill towards India, the same joy and optimism that we experience today.

It gives me a great pleasure to know that Indian Society of Dukhan(ISD) is launching its own web-site on 5th February,2009. The web-site will act as ready information source of the activities of ISD and enable the members to exchange their views and comments electronically. ISD has played an important role in bringing up various socio-cultural activities for Indian Communities in Dukhan. The events organized by ISD have helped to promote the cultural interaction between various expatriate communities in Dukhan, making the social life more creative and exciting. The young are given the opportunities to express themselves in various fields like literature, sports and other cultural activities. I wish them all the best on their future endeavors and convey my best wishes to all the members of ISD and their families.

ISD the umbrella organization, which brings together variety of culture and multifaceted communities under one roof, has created an awe among the multinational workforce in Dukhan. The ever increasing number of community activities and the participation of people from the sub-continent in promoting cultural interaction within Dukhan Township as well as among the support services team in the vicinity of our beautiful little town has always been appreciated by Qatar Petroleum Management. During the last couple of years, I had the privilege to watch a few of the performances, on & off the stage; the professional approach of ISD is worth a mention.
